Short Term Mission Fund

SLOAN SHORT TERM MISSION FUND First Baptist Crosby is all about going “across the street and around the world” with the Gospel. Many of you have given to help church members who were God-led to go on mission trips. Short term mission trips by members of our church are one part of our ongoing strategy for carrying out the marching orders of our Lord: “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel” (Mark 16:15). The “Gary and Carla Sloan Short Term Mission Offering” is our way of funding short term mission projects.
This fund exists to assist any member who participates in a CHURCH-SPONSORED mission trip. The amount one can receive depends on the availability of funds given through the “Sloan Short Term Mission Offering” and the expenses related to the mission trip in question. In the last few years we’ve sent groups to Belize, Cambodia, Honduras, Haiti, Mexico, Peru, Louisiana, New Mexico, Alaska, Washington State, the Grand Canyon, East Texas, and many other places. Trips are planned as we sense God’s leading.
Gary Sloan grew up in FBC Crosby. Gary and Gloria and their children, Alyssia, Rissa, Alan and Carla, were serving as our Southern Baptist Missionaries in Mexico when Gary and Carla drowned. Gloria and the other children continued on the mission field, and maintain a close relationship with our church today. The now-grown children currently serve the Lord in various roles. Gloria is a retired Global Mobilizer for the International Mission Board, based in the MAC (Middle America and Caribbean) Region. The sacrifice this family has made is a reminder of the high price of reaching a lost world for Christ.

Shut-in Meals Ministry

We work with other churches in our community to provide meals once a month to our homebound neighbors. We are in need of helpers! You would help in our kitchen preparing food, packing it in ‘to-go’ containers, and/or delivering to the homes, all of which are in Crosby. Our church is responsible for the 3rd Tuesday of each month.
If you are interested in serving through this ministry, please call Judee Hite, 281-635-7043. It only takes a couple hours one day a month.

Ministry to the Homeless

FBC Crosby has an ongoing ministry to the homeless. Groups go into Houston at least monthly to feed and minister in support of 1000 Hills Ministry. This includes delivering “care packages”. As you travel, purchase extra travel-size toiletries when you shop for your trips, or collect small personal care items from hotel stays. Other items we accept are new socks/ t-shirts / boxers, lip balm, bug repellent wipes, sunscreen. You can bring these to the church office any time, year-round! You are always welcome to come along. Just meet at FBC at 8:00 am the third Saturday of every month to carpool or ride the church van to downtown for “Church in the Driveway”.

Hospital or Long Term Care Visitation

Want to be part of brightening someone’s day? Please consider being part of a team who takes turns going to visit those in long term hospital or nursing care situations. Contact Lee Ann Lee at 281-328-2564 or

Our church is very involved with mission work locally and around the world.

We join with other churches in Crosby to help people who are in need of food and clothes. Our support is through our financial gifts and our volunteers.

From time to time we have special efforts to take food to homeless people in and around the Houston area.
